The Type 32 or model 1899 Japanese sword, came in two patterns. The first pattern, known as ‘Ko,’ was issued to cavalry NCO’s and had a blade length of around 83cm. The second pattern, known as ‘Otsu,’ was issued to army NCO’s and had a shorter blade length of around 77cm 
This one is Otsu and the blade measures 77, it is stamped with the serial number 49623 . The blade is excellent. 
Two models exist as far as a finger strap is concerned, this one is one without the strap. 
The handle is wood and in overall excellent condition. 
Strangely these only have one scabbard suspension ring.
